Young people complete their formal education having had the opportunity to take a much wider range of qualifications than previously.
In Years 9 – 11 they can take:
- GCSEs – full and ½ courses
- A diploma at Foundation or Higher level either can take up a major part of their curriculum time.
- A diploma is studied alongside GCSEs.
- A Foundation Diploma is worth 5 GCSEs at D – G; whilst a Higher Diploma is worth 7 GCSEs at A* - C.
In Years 12 – 13 they can take:
- AS/A2 courses leading to ‘A’ Levels
- An Advanced or Progression Diploma.
- An Advanced Diploma is worth 3.5 A levels and a Progression Diploma 2.5 A levels.
- Vocational courses leading to NVQs.
It is also possible at some schools and colleges for students to study for the International Baccalaureate.
